LibrariansAviva Elzufon. I am a first-year dual degree student at CLACS and the School for Public and Environmental Affairs. I graduated summa cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in 2010 with a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies. After spending two years working in New York City based non-for-profit, I am returning to school to research the plausibility and implications of incorporating technology into the administration of governmental social programs in the Southern Cone.
John Kroondyk. I am a second-year dual degree student at CLACS and the School of Library & Information Science. I received a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As an undergraduate, I focused on US-Mexican relations and developed a passion for language and libraries. At IU, I will focus on Portuguese and Brazilian studies. I am interested in academic librarianship, social movements and information access.
Matthew Lebrato. I am a first-year PhD student in social-cultural anthropology. Before coming to IU, I received an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the University of Chicago in 2012. My research examines questions of identity, citizenship, education, and the politics of knowledge among indigenous communities in Oaxaca, Mexico. I am particularly interested in how these concepts are reworked and customized among indigenous communities and the process of institutionalization of community practices.
Kathryn Lehman. I am a first-year Master’s student at CLACS. I received a BA in history and philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder in December of 2010. As an undergraduate, I studied the history of Mapuche social and political movements in Chile and, in particular, how they relate to and interact with the international human rights discourse. At IU I plan to continue studying contemporary indigenous movements and move geographically into the Amazon region.
