Rachel Dotson. (Currently studying in Chiapas, Mexico through the CIESAS Exchange Program) I am a second-year Master’s student at CLACS.  I graduated from IU in 2005 with a BA in History. My undergraduate studies focused on immigration, education, and language in the US and Latin America.  Since graduating, I have worked in non-profits and youth services in Bloomington.  My current research interests focus on social movements, language and education in Latin America.

John Kroondyk. I am a first-year dual degree student at CLACS and the School of Library & Information Science. I received a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As an undergraduate, I focused on US-Mexican relations and developed a passion for language and libraries. At IU, I will focus on Portuguese and Brazilian studies. I am interested in academic librarianship, social movements and information access.

Michael Lemon. I am a second-year Master's student at CLACS and a first-year Ph.D. student in Latin American History.  My work centers on the development of the communications industry and the creation of a national visual culture in Allende's Chile. My interests, therefore, revolve around the links between political history, cultural history, global patterns of production and consumption, the history of technology, and media theory.  I received my undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies from Oberlin College in 2007 under the direction of Steven Volk.  At Indiana, I work with Jeff Gould, Eden Medina, Daniel James, Lessie Jo Frazier, and Peter Guardino.

Sonia Manriquez. I am a second-year Master's student at the center. My research centers on life in the Andes, specifically Peru. I am looking into cultural differences in rural and urban areas, indigenous identity, globalization and discrimination. I have recently completed an intensive Quechua language program in Cusco, Peru in addition to previous years of training in the language.

Alison Pitt. I am a third-year joint Master’s student at CLACS and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. A Bloomington native, I graduated from Butler University in 2007 with majors in Political Science and Spanish and a minor in Peace Studies. After a year of teaching fourth grade for a nonprofit in rural Honduras, I returned to graduate school with new research interests in agricultural and food policy, rural poverty, livelihoods and food security in Central America and the Caribbean. I am currently studying Haitian Creole at IU with David Tezil.
