Prof. Alan Simmons, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
(Archaeological Institute of America  National Lecture Series. Co-sponsored by theMathers Museum of World Cultures.)

Prof. Simmons'  talk will explore how  new, multidisciplinary  investigations have changed our perceptions of Neolithic settlements and life in the Levantine Near East.

Abell/Yamani Distinguished Professor of Nautical Archaeology
Texas A & M University
(IUPUI School of Liberal Arts, John D. Barlow Lecture in the Humanities. Co-sponsored by the Central Indiana Society of the Archaeological Institute of America)

Prof.  Bass is one of the founders of underwater archaeology. The Ulu Burun wreck, on which he will speak, contains material from Egypt, Canaan, Cyprus, and Greece, showing the scope and nature of ancient trade in the era of the Pharoah Tutankhamen and the legendary Trojan War.  Reception to follow.  For information and to reserve a seat, contact:  Kelly Abbot (317) 278-1839 (kjabbott@iupui.edu), by March 1.

"Storage and States in Minoan Society"
Dr. Thomas Strasser, California State University, Sacramento
(Co-sponsored by  the Dept. of Classical Studies, IUB, theKatie Jacobsen Fund in the Program in Classical Archaeology, IUB, and the Mathers Museum of World Cultures.)

Dr. Strasser is a graduate of the Program in Classical Archaeology at Indiana University. He has extensive fieldwork experience in the Mediterranean world, including Greece and Turkey. His research into the storage facilities of the Minoan palaces has provided important insight on the nature of palatial economies and society.
