Model Classroom Descriptions and Requirements

To guide the renovation of existing classrooms and the design of new classrooms, Indiana University has developed Model Descriptions for each classroom type.  The model descriptions are available in the following formats:  HTML, which includes links to additional relevant information; Acrobat PDF; and Word.  The key features of the four basic types are also listed in matrix form.

  • Type I (Basic): General purpose classrooms that have no technology permanently installed (other than an overhead transparency projector) but have an environment conducive to the use of mobile technology  HTML  PDF  Word  (4/1977)
  • Type II (Basic Plus): General purpose classrooms of small to medium size that have basic video playback installed and have an environment conducive to the use of mobile technology  HTML  PDF  Word  (4/1977)
  • Type IV (Advanced Technology Classroom [ATC]): General purpose classrooms with installed video/data projector(s), analog and digital storage devices, auxiliary computer/video/audio inputs, touch screen system controller.  Model description consists of four sections:

  • Type V (Computer Classroom): General purpose classroom designed with either a computer workstation or a data connection and power at every station so that students can either use a provided workstation or bring their own laptops with the ability to connect to the network.  HTML  PDF  Word  (7/2002)

Classroom Descriptions and Requirements for new IUB Lecture Hall

The model descriptions for the Type IV Advanced Technology Classroom above were modified to meet the specific needs of classrooms in a new Lecture Hall planned for the Bloomington campus.
