The Murray Applied Clay Minerals Laboratory represents one of our department’s oldest research labs. The Clay Lab has traditionally been used to study the industrial and economic potential of global clay deposits. It has gone through many technique advancements and research approaches.
One of the Laboratory’s strengths has been the appropriation over the years of diverse instrumentation for application to multiple research problems. However, there is now more emphasis on sustainability of laboratory resources. A growing concern for H.H. Murray is the archiving of geological samples for re-use by various researchers with appropriate analyses, e.g. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope images, grit % data.
