Message from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences of Indiana University. This Web site is a gateway to the College and its outstanding academic programs. The College stands at the heart of one of America's most distinguished universities, offering undergraduate and graduate education to prepare students for rewarding careers and positions of leadership in our world. While our faculty are well-known for their contributions in research and creative activity, they are likewise distinguished for their teaching.

I passionately believe that the liberal arts education we offer is the core of what it means to be educated. Our students develop the skills of communication, reasoning, and analysis necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing technological and global environment.

In addition to being the academic home of more than 10,000 students, the College provides the liberal arts and sciences course work for most students in other schools on the Bloomington campus. The College also offers summer and science outreach programs for middle and high school students, ongoing programming for our more than 110,000 alumni, and opportunities for scholars and researchers from around the world.

As an academic community, the College is committed to the belief that expanding our knowledge of the liberal arts and sciences will enable us to live better lives and to contribute more to society. We invite you to explore this site to find ways in which your life can be enriched through the arts and sciences.
