Comparative literature places literary study in the broadest possible framework and allows for approaches from very diverse perspectives. In addition to its traditional emphasis on the systematic comparison of literary works from more than one culture, comparative literature has increasingly been concerned with critical theory and with interrelationships between literature and such fields as music, the visual arts, film, philosophy, religion, politics and science.
