Disability Support GroupDisability Support Group discusses personal experiences in wheel chairs, accessibility issues, the Americans with Disabilities Act and advocacy issues. The support group also offers counseling and support for those recently handicapped. Contact Person: Disability Awareness for Staff and SupervisorsTrainer: This Workshop: This workshop requires at least 90 minutes. It is designed for individuals who interact with people with disabilities in a public service capacity. Contact Person: What Supervisors Should Know about ADA and FMLAPresenter: The Americans with Disabilities act is now law. This session focuses on Title I (employment) and will cover the key aspects needed for compliance. Implementation procedures include the following: All supervisors with employment responsibilities should be able to implement the covered procedures in order to ensure compliance with the law. The Family Medical Leave Act went into effect on August 5, 1993. In this session we will cover the new regulations and discuss university procedures for complying with the act. Supervisors who have questions about the administration of this Act should plan to attend this program. Diversity TheaterThis local theater group explores disability issues and other minority concerns such as prejudice, racism, ageism and sexism through the medium of theater. In most cases, the material consists of short sketches which illustrate specific points and situations. The group is available for on campus performances. Two or more months notice is needed for adequate rehearsal time. New members are always welcome as performers, stage crew and volunteers (publicity, promotion, etc.). Performances in most cases are in evenings and weekends. Membership ranges from 5 to 10 people. Contact Person: |
