Modern Dance Technique
Dowd started her training in Indianapolis under the direction Ballet Internationale’s Vladilen Semenov and Irina Kolpakova. During her younger training she also attended the Maryland Summer Youth Program & American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive. Upon graduating from BI’s academy Dowd attended Indiana University and completed her degree with the Individualized Major Program in Dance Performance & Kinesiology in 2005. Dowd’s joint thesis project, Continuum, was a full length evening work, opening to a sold out venue of 700. This concert was supported by the Individualized Thesis Project Grant & Artistic Research Grant, awarded to Dowd in 2005, 2006. A third grant was awarded to her, Artistic Summer Activities Grant in 2004 which allowed her to attend the American Dance Festival in 2004.
In 2005 Dowd was offered the chance to attend the International Dance Exchange Tour to China with IU. During this time Dowd toured China with Liz Shea, performing and giving lecture demonstrations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Cheng Du on the juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary dance. From 2005-2006 Jamie was an Adjunct Lecturer at IU in Modern Dance & Body Conditioning for Dancers.
In 2006 Dowd relocated to New York City. During her time there Dowd lived, worked, choreographed and danced in NYC-festivals and venues including: Solar One, 60x60, Green Space, Cunningham Studios, Winter Follies & Kaye Playhouse. From 2009-2011 Dowd was a guest instructor for the New York Summer Dance Intensive. She started studying at Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) in 2006-working her way through being a student, to faculty and finally the Education Director of the Dance Department.
In addition to her dance background Jamie is also certified in Pilates, Functional Anatomy & Pre/Post Natal Fitness. Dowd has also been featured in Dance Teacher Magazine, Dance Spirit & Dance Magazine.
