Beginning Modern Dance

Rachel Newbrough graduated Indiana University with a B.S. in Kinesiology-Dance and currently works as the Co-Director of Performing Company at Stage I Dance Academy in Greenwood, IN. During her four years in the IU Contemporary Dance Program, Rachel had the opportunity to perform works by Martha Graham, Bella Lewitzky, Larry Keigwin and Nicole Wolcott, as well as Laurie Eisenhower. She has attended the Lar Lubovitch Summer Intensive and the David Dorfman Dance Summer Intensive and has taken classes from David Hochoy, David Parsons, Laura Poole, Connie Dinapoli, Sandra Kaufman, Liz Koeppen, Ben Munisteri and Nicole Wolcott. Rachel works creatively with Elizabeth Shea, performing works for Elizabeth Shea Dance. Rachel traveled to Israel in April 2013 to teach and assist Shea in setting her work "Lucy's Bones" on the Jerusalem Academy Dance Ensemble. She has also collaborated with Shea on two solo works, one involving motion capture technology and animation. Rachel’s personal work has been based in Bloomington, Indiana with pieces performing in IUCDT’s Senior Showcase and Hammer & Nail concerts. Most recently her work can be seen in Motus Dance Theatre's Cultivate Performance.

Rachel has been on faculty for the IU-Pre College Program and the Nashville Dance Studio. As Adjunct Faculty at IU, Rachel has been involved with the IU Summer Dance Intensive for High School Students in addition to her work with elective classes.

In addition to teaching dance, Rachel also teaches Pilates and is a certified ZUMBA® instructor.
