Contemporary dance technique
Stephanie Nugent is a choreographer, performer, and educator of dance/theater and improvisation. Her creative projects are rooted in collaborations with artists and scholars addressing social issues surrounding empathy and nonviolence, and along with her performance work with artists including Keith Johnson/Dancers, Victoria Marks, Ririe Woodbury Dance Company, Della Davidson, and Malashock Dance and Company, has been presented work throughout the US and Europe since 1991.
She has served on full-time faculty at California Institute of the Arts (2008-2013), as an Associate Professor of Dance at UC-Santa Barbara (2001-2007), and continues to serve as Vice President and Treasurer of Iridian Arts Inc. Since her arrival in the mid-west, she has joined the faculties of Motus Dance Theater and Studio 49 Fitness, IU Bloomington, and she will be a Visiting Artist at Ohio State University in spring 2014.
Upcoming projects include performing with Motus Dance Theater at TEDX Indy, a commission for the IUPUI dance club, ongoing practice and performance with the mid-west contact improvisation community G.L.A.C.I.E.R, as well as California-based artists Shel Wagner Rasch and Jones Welsh, solo projects, and a dance/theater adaptation of playwright Virginia Grise’s rasgos asiaticos.
