Associate Justice Matthew Bower


Matthew Bower is a junior majoring in Biochemistry and pursuing a minor in Religious Studies. A recipient of the Lilly Endowment Scholarship and a student in the Hutton Honors College, Matthew served as Vice-Chair for his Honors Living Community in Teter Residential Hall his freshman year. While at Teter, he also became a member of the Judicial Board and served for two years. As Secretary and Brigade Leader of Global Medical Brigades, Matthew has traveled to Honduras twice in the past two years to provide basic medical care to impoverished rural areas. Matthew can be found volunteering throughout Bloomington and especially enjoys Shalom Community Center and the Bloomington Hospital ER. During his summers, he also provides tutoring for those with mental disabilities and volunteers at his community hospital. A science enthusiast, Matthew enjoys chemical research and is currently investigating synthetic methods for nanomaterials with the Skrabalak Group.

Matthew graduated as valedictorian from East Noble High School, where he was the Vice-President of Student Council, Vice-Preisdent of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council, and played tennis and golf. In 2007, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the Indiana Association of Student Councils and served until graduation. In 2008, he was selected to participate in the Molecular Medicine in Action program at the IU School of Medicine.

Matthew plans to attend medical school to be an Emergency Physician and volunteer his time for international and domestic medical missions.
