Associate Justice Shokhi Goel


Shokhi Goel, Class of 2015, is a junior majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish and Chemistry.  She is pursuing the Liberal Arts and Management Program Certificate (LAMP), and is also a student in the Hutton Honors College.

 

A recipient of the Arthur R. Metz and Integrated Freshman Learning Experience (IFLE) research scholarship, Shokhi is the founder and president of Health NOW, an organization focused on spreading awareness about preventative health in the IU and greater Bloomington community. She enjoys volunteering at Middle Way House and raising money for Timmy Global Health through the LAMP Virtu Project, a mock investment organization. Shokhi choreographs Indian folk dance for the Bindiana School of Dance, a group of young girls that perform at venues such as Raas Royalty and the Bloomington Farmer’s market. As an avid scientist, Shokhi has researched nanoparticles at the National Institutes of Health in DC. At IU, her work with ovarian cancer cell lines has been published in a biological methods journal, and she is currently pursuing an honors thesis in the Nephew Lab.

 

Shokhi graduated in the top 3% of her graduating class at Carmel High School, where she was a National Merit Finalist, an editor and photographer for her high school newspaper, and on the Womens’ Golf team. In 2011, Shokhi earned the highest honor of Girl Scouts – the Gold Award – for her project with the Indiana School of Blind and Visually Impaired. Her project was 1 of 5 showcased at a governor’s luncheon celebrating the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts.
