Arvind Verma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Associate Director of India Studies Program at Indiana University, Bloomington (USA). His research interests are in Policing; Criminal Justice Policy Issues, Indian Police, Research Methods, Mathematical Modeling, and Geographical Information Systems. He has been the Managing Editor of Police Practice and Research: An International Journal for several years and and is a consultant to the Bureau of Police Research and Development, Government of India. His recent publications include “Indian Police: a Critical Review” published by Regency Publications; “Policing of Elections in India”, India Review; “Measuring Police Performance in India: An application of Data Envelopment Analysis” Policing; a book chapter titled “State and Coercive Power in India”, In The State of India’s Democracy published by John Hopkins University Press and “Anatomy of Riots: A Situational Crime Prevention Approach” Crime Prevention & Community Safety: An International Journal. Book chapters titled “Visualization of Criminal Activity in an Urban Population”, In Artificial Crime Analysis Systems: Using Computer Simulations and Geographic Information Systems published by Idea Group Press and “Democratic Policing in India” in Policing Developing Democracies published by Routledge is forthcoming. His current projects include a book titled Understanding the Police in India [under contract by Butterworths] and another titled “The New Khakhi”.
