The Department of Criminal Justice offers an undergraduate major, an undergraduate minor, and—for students outside the College of Arts and Sciences—a Certificate in Criminal Justice.

Undergraduate Major

The undergraduate major requires that a student complete 27 hours including the required core courses of P100, P200, P202, P290, and K300. Four elective classes complete the major and at least two of these must be at the 400-level. Students may use one course from the list of Approved Optional Courses in their major. Double majors may substitute a course in statistical methods from another department of the College of Arts and Sciences, but in that case no courses from the list of approved optional courses may count toward the major. They must complete the degree requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Undergraduate Minor

The undergraduate minor requires that a student complete 15 hours in criminal justice, including P100, P200, and P202. Two 3-credit electives at the 300/400-level complete the minor, to be taken on the Bloomington campus (electives may not include K300.)

Certificate in Criminal Justice

The Certificate in Criminal Justice may be awarded by the College of Arts & Sciences to students who are working on degrees other than the B.A. Students enrolled in schools other than COAS are especially encouraged to consider the certificate program. The requirements for this 27 hour certificate are the same as for a major in criminal justice.
