The annual event is sponsored by the National Council on US-Arab Relations in Washington, D.C. The faculty advisor for the event was CSME founding director, Amb. Feisal Amin Rasoul al-Istrabadi. A total of 14 universities competed. Commenting on their stellar performance, al-Istrabadi said, "They were truly an outstanding group of students. They had very little guidance from me; rather, they were self-motivated and worked very hard. I am very proud of their accomplishment--all the more remarkable since it was our first time at the competition."
