Society for Applied Sociology meetings. John Kennedy recently attended the SAS meetings in New Orleans. While there he presented papers on internet research ethics and interviewer falsification

American Sociological Association meetings. John Kennedy presented a professional workshop on the ethical dimensions of internet research at the meetings held in Atlanta August 15-19. 

Timesharing Experiment for the Social Sciences (TESS). Production interviewing for TESS began on July 10.

CASES 5.3j launched. The CSR is ready to use the latest version of CASES for the TESS survey. CASES 5.3j provides significant enhancements in CAI programming.

AAPOR and International Field Directors/Field Technologies Conferences. Many of the CSR staff attended these conferences from May 15 - May 21 in Nashville, TN.

Renaming the Institute of Social Research. The CSR is located in the Institute of Social Research. The Institute was named the Karl Schuessler Institute of Social Research during a dedication ceremony on May 9.

John Kennedy attended a Conference on Interviewer Falsification at the University of Michigan on April 4 - 6.

John Kennedy at FedCASIC. John Kennedy gave a presentation on the various uses of Web technology in the NSSE project at the FedCASIC meeting in Washington, DC on February 26.

Election Surveys. The pre-election portion of the National Election Survey and the Survey for the Center on Congress were completed on November 4. Post-election interviewing began on November 6. The National Election Survey is complete. The survey for the Center on Congress was delayed in finishing because of the runoff election in Louisiana. It finished on December 31, 2002.

QDET Conference. John Kennedy and Nancy Bannister attended the Questionnaire Development, Evaluation, and Testing Methods conference from November 15-17 in Charleston, SC.

NAMTAC Meeting. John Kennedy presented at the National Association of Management and Technical Assistance Centers fall meeting in Asheville, NC on October 26. His topic was - "Issues Regarding Surveys: Some Do's and Don'ts."  Some additional information for Conference participants.

Society for Applied Sociology Annual Meeting. At the SAS annual meeting, John Kennedy presented the Lester Ward Award to Don Dillman of Washington State University. 

Institute of Medicine Town Meeting. John Kennedy moderated a panel at the Institute of Medicine Town Meeting that discussed a recent IOM report - Integrity in Scientific Research: Creating an Environment that Promotes Responsible Conduct. The Town Meeting was held on October 10.

CSR Expansion.  The CSR has moved some of its operations to Coulter in the Ashton complex. There are 15 interviewing stations, three supervisor monitoring stations, an employee and six offices in Coulter.  The mail survey section along with scanner has moved to Coulter.
