The Center for Survey Research provides a variety of services in addition to surveys.
The CSR is developing substantial expertise in program evaluation. We use primarily "empowerment evaluation" techniques that help program managers evaluate the processes and outcome of their programs.
From January 1998 - January 2000, we conducted an evaluation research project for the Monroe County Community Prevention Coalition. In this project, we assisted the Coalition staff, task forces, and grant recipients in their evaluations of their projects. We are continuing this project while working with the Youth Network of Monroe County.
We have also assisted in evaluating the Minority Fellowship Program for the American Sociological Association. This Program has been funded for twenty-six years by the National Institute of Mental Health. We assisted in the grant renewal in December 1999 and the Program has been funded for an additional five years. Its goal is to increase the participation of minorities in sociology. We analyzed the last ten years of the Program to determine the scientific and applied productivity of those who completed the program.
The CSR has a high volume scanner that is capable of scanning both text and marked responses. With this scanner, we can provide any scanning services needed by researchers and policymakers.
The CSR can provide all the services required to conduct focus groups. John Kennedy received extensive training in managing focus group processes and moderating focus groups. He has conducted numerous focus groups over the past few years.
The CSR has extensive experience in database management services. We recently provided research support for large databases to IU faculty, and we are managing the American Sociological Association's database of minority fellows. Our staff have extensive experience using MS Access and SQL programming.
Many researchers collect data from a variety of sources, including surveys they conduct themselves. The CSR has managed many large-scale, complex data entry processes using sophisticated data entry software systems. We can provide data entry services over the Web such that users can enter the data from any computer with Internet access.
The CSR professional staff provide free survey consulting to IU faculty, staff, students and administration. We also provide consulting to government and nonprofit policymakers. Please contact one of our staff for an appointment.
