Cultural Studies Adjunct: Darlene Sadlier
I am a specialist in Lusophone literature and culture and Latin American cinema. Many of my publications study the intersection of gender and literary modernism. My most recent book, Brazil Imagined: 1500 to the Present (U of Texas P, 2008), is the first cultural history of Brazil in English. I am the editor of a forthcoming volume titled Latin American Melodrama: Passion, Pathos and Entertainment (U of Illinois P, 2009) and am working on a new book about U.S. cultural diplomacy and the Good Neighbor years, 1940-1945 to be published by U Texas P.
