Assessing Writing
On Grading and Marking Student Writing
Representatives of the Writing Program will meet with faculty members individually to discuss the grading and marking of writing assignments. Contact them to discuss any concerns, from managing the paper crunch, determining grading scales, and commenting effectively, to encouraging revision, weighing grades, or contending with students' misuse of sources.
The Writing Program can also be called upon to organize workshops on the use of writing, the design of writing assignments, and techniques for responding profitably and efficiently to student writing. Workshops can be arranged for faculty members or Associate Instructors in an entire department or school, or just for the instructors in a particular course. (Follow this link to the "Workshops" page in this site.)
On Conducting Course Assessments
The Campus Writing Program can also, upon request, assist faculty members in assessing the efficacy of writing within a particular course. For further information, contact the CWP; the feasibility of such projects varies each year with the number and scope of requests.
Campus Instructional Consulting also consults with faculty about assessing student learning.
