Classical Studies | The Art and Archaeology of Ancient Pompeii
C419 | ALL | James Franklin
C419 will meet from 9:30A-1045A MW in Fine Arts 010.
Section 1004 open to graduate only. Section 1005 open to
undergraduates only, both sections meet with FINA A490 and A495.
The course will comprise a thorough survey of the remains of our best
preserved ancient Roman city. The class is largely lecture format,
with substantial reserve reading in addition to regular assignments in
the course text.
There will be two tests and a cumulative final examination. Tests
will center on a thorough knowledge of the topography and individual
monuments of the site and will feature slide identifications as well
as factual and essay questions. The final examination is worth twice
the midterm in value; these four grades will be averaged for the final
grade.
