A survey of theories of human communication and their research base:
Includes definitions, functions of communication, the evolutionary
foundations, the history of the study, the role of demographic
characteristics and personality, the role of opinion formation
and change, influence of others, credibility, language, nonverbal behavior,
critical thinking and ideological evolution, and communication in
small groups, organizations, mass society, and intercultural inter-
action.  Two objective examinations and a paper critically analyzing
a communication event are required.
