The topics for discussion will include some or all of the following:
analogy and the blur of lexical items; the Whorf-Sapir hypothesis; sexist
language and imagery; the unconscious effects of compound words;
translation by people and by machines; syntax, semantics, and artificial
intelligence; phrasal and subphrasal blends; error-making and the
ill-defined boundaries of syntax; the ultra-rapid hierarchical processes
that underlie reading.
