PREREQUISITE: W131 OR EQUIVALENT.


The goal of W270 is to provide instruction in and opportunities to
practice strategies for reading, analyzing, and evaluating the
arguments of others as well as strategies for constructing arguments
of various kinds on a variety of issues using outside sources.
Accordingly, in this course we will study strategies for identifying
issues, determining positions, assessing claims and reasons, locating
and evaluating supporting evidence, and writing essays that themselves
represent clear and convincing arguments.  Attendance will be
required.
