An introductory survey of Italian sculpture and painting, and to a limited  extent, architecture,
during the golden age of Italian art, a period in
which art forms were developed which remained canonical to the modern era.
The Early Renaissance of the Fifteenth Century, and its culmination in the
High Renaissance of the Sixteenth Century, as well as the period of Baroque art in the
Seventeenth.  The course will focus on the historical background of art, and stylistic innovations
in the work of major artists such as Masaccio, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Bernini.
