Fine Arts | Art of Pre-Columbian America
A452 | 2191 | McNaughton
This course explores some of the most stunning, dramatic, complex and subtle art the world has
ever seen. From the Olmecs to the Aztecs it moves through hundreds of years of profoundly
thought-provoking sculpture, architecture, ceramics and paintings, with the goal of understanding
the aesthetics, philosophy and social realities that brought the art into being. Some have asked
how societies that allegedly practiced human sacrifice could create things of such deep and
abiding beauty. The answer can be found in this intensive 8 week course.
