Above section meets with F301. Music has influenced film in the Hollywood as
well as documentary and ethnographic contexts. This music has amplified,
underscored, and created a counterpoint to the visual images and action. The
course will explore how various kinds of music have been created, how these
musics have been interpreted by audiences. Films to be viewed and analyzed
will be selected from the periods of the 1930s to 1990s.
Students will be required to keep a journal. They will also be required to
write a paper of approximately 25 pages or construct a website on a topic to
be chosen in consultation with the course instructor.
