M333 | 2570 | Storey

>From Dante's early career as a young poet of erotic love lyrics to his
extraordinary syntheses of philosophical and theological commentaries,
Dante's works reflect a poetics of life and reform through his very real
experience of exile and the narrative conceit of the afterlife. We will
read and discuss these experiences and ideas in his New Life and
Divine Comedy with the help of Dino Compagni's dramatic and
contemporary account of the circumstances of Dante's exile in his
Chronicle. Fulfills AHTI and CSA requirements; taught in English.
