French And Italian | Modern Italian Literature and Culture

This class is devoted to examining aspects of modern Italian literature and
culture. This Fall we will concentrate upon the theme Politics, Power and
Literature, in Italy, from the French Revolution to the present time. We will
study works by authors such as Foscolo, Manzoni, Tomasi di Lampedusa, Carlo
Levi, Primo Levi, Sciascia, and others. We will also screen and discuss a few
films related to the works analyzed, and place the critical discussion within
a broader European context.
