S471 Spanish American Literature I   (3 credits)
P: S331 and S332 or equivalent

	This is a course to introduce undergraduate students to the sweep of
Spanish American literature from the late XV century to the end of the XIX
century.  A sampling of Pre-Columbian literature (Aztec, Mayan and Inca)
will also be considered.

	There will be numerous opportunities to write brief essays, quizzes
will be given, and two papers shall also be assigned, one at midterm and the
second toward the end of the semester.  The course will be all in Spanish
and of a lecture-discussion nature.  No exams.
