H106 is an opportunity to study major features of the American
experience in the period between 1865 and 2000 and to think about the
United States in more sophisticated ways than you perhaps did as a
high school student.

The class will devote major attention to questions raised in these
five areas:

1. The United States as a world power
2. Race, ethnicity, and gender
3. Political Reform
4. Big business and economic change
5. What is America? Is America like the rest of the world?

Course requirements include two weekly lectures and one weekly
discussion section, short essays, and three examinations.
