Above section for history graduate students only

H593 is part of the History Department Preparing Future Faculty
program begun in 1996. Faculty and graduate students prepared the
overall program in order "to train graduate students more intensively
for classroom teaching and the challenges of academic and non-academic
careers in the twenty-first century."

We will pay some attention to pedagogical theory and general classroom
challenges but will focus primary attention on United States history.
In particular, we will think about the content and nature of U.S.
history and how subject matter can be presented in ways to increase
student learning.

A major part of the class is preparing to teach an upper level
undergraduate history course in spring 2001, the practicum for which
you will register in H594. Early this fall we will form teams of two
to four students each. Each team will decide on the subject and
undertake extensive preparation to teach the spring semester course.
