The work of this colloquium will cover the history of the colonial and
early national American South, with problems and readings especially
focused on the social and cultural history of the region.  Among other
readings will be new and classic works on slavery, gender relations,
and trans-Atlantic colonial society.  There will be weekly critical
reviews and a final historiographical essay.
