This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary study of
gender - the social creation and culture representation of femininity and
masculinity. Students will examine beliefs and practices surrounding
sexual difference as matters of political struggle and debate. This course
provides an introduction to the study of the construction of gender roles
in culture. Assigned reading, lecture and some discussion will focus on
topics such as theory, cultural and class identity, representation of the
body, interpersonal relationships, the global economy, employment and
welfare, women's health issues, crime, the military, the environment, and
theory, vision and action for social change.

Course Requirements: Short response papers and/or in-class quizzes,
midterm, and final examination.
