CLASS MEETING:
Sections 6711-6712 meets two 50 minute periods per week for the ENTIRE
SEMESTER!
Section 6713-6714 meets one 50 minute period four times per week for the
SECOND
EIGHT WEEKS ONLY!
Sections 6715-6722 meets two 50 minute periods per week for the ENTIRE
SEMESTER!
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Students shall become sufficiently skilled in volleyball technique to permit
them to
execute advanced offensive and defensive techniques and strategies during
game
play.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed for beginning volleyball players. The following
skills will be
taught in the first 3 weeks: pass, set, floater serve, passing footwork,
attack,
block, individual defense (including the dive), and the jump-serve. Weeks
4-6 will
focus on learning team offenses and team defenses. A 6-on-6 tournament
will be
played in weeks 7-9. A doubles tournament and a 4-on-4 tournament will be
played in weeks 10-11. Another 6-on-6 tournament will be held during the
final
weeks of the semester. Drills will be conducted daily prior to the
tournament
matches.
ATTENDANCE:
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences. Upon a fourth
absence, the student has three (3) options:
1) receive a grade of F;
2) officially withdraw from the class;
3) follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/or the Elective
Program
Coordinator.
GRADING INFORMATION:
Grades will be determined using a competency-based grading system. Students
must complete a particular number of skills or tasks in order to achieve a
particular grade.
