PREREQUISITES:
E270 Introduction to Scuba, and good health (E270 and E370 may be taken
during the same semester).

FEES:
E370 Lab fee of $150 will be assessed at time of registration.

CLASS MEETING:
Meets one 60 minute Lecture and one 2 hour Lab per week.  MEETS FIRST EIGHT
WEEKS ONLY!

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
National scuba certification program for recreational divers.  Program
includes
lecture and pool sessions to prepare students to participate in the open
water
qualification dives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Develop knowledge of equipment, environments, communication, and related
theory of diving, as applied to the open water diving experience.  Obtain
fundamental skills necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving prior to
the
open water diving experience.  Provide student referral.

PADI Open Water Diver Kit (Manual, workbook, logbook)

CLASS PROCEDURE:
Students will meet during the regular scheduled lecture time.  Additionally,
students will arrange lecture and pool sessions for completion of the
required sessions.  These arranged sessions will be limited to 12 students
and provide for a better instructor to student ratio.  Arranged times will
be announced by the instructor, based on three options indicated by the
student.  Students must complete all required lecture and pool sessions,
pass the written exam, and satisfactorily complete the pool evaluation,
prior to being given a student referral.

Upon completion of the required lecture and pool sessions, the instructor
will
notify SIS and students may sign-up for regularly scheduled two day open
water
dives (4 hrs/day), or request a student referral.

GRADING:
S/F grade based on lecture, pool attendance and exams.

ATTENDANCE:
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences.  Upon a fourth
absence, the student has three (3) options:
1)  receive a grade of F;
2)  officially withdraw from the class;
3)  follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/or the Elective
Program
Coordinator.

EQUIPMENT:
IU will provide equipment for the pool sessions.
