1. To develop a greater understanding of the social significance of sport
a. Explaining sport in light of other systems and subsystems
b. Explaining the nature of other social systems through their
relationships with sport
2. To become more aware of the positive and negative consequences of the
sport is organized in America.
3. To demonstrate the utility of the sociological perspective as a means to
understanding that sport is a social institution as well as other parts
the social world.
4. To develop an understanding that sport is a social institution as well
a microcosm of the larger society.
