Instructor: Dr. Daniel A. Dinnsen
Section: 3072
TR 1:00-2:15 -- SY 004

Recommended: LING L306 (Phonetics)

This course introduces contemporary methods and theory for studying the sound
structure and patterning of the world's languages. Our description and analysis of
sound systems will take advantage of an interaction with morphology and phonetics.
Autosegmental phonology, metrical phonology, feature geometry, and optimality
theory will be considered. Apart from the readings, the majority of the work for the
course will involve phonological problem solving and argumentation.
