Philosophy | Introduction to Ethics
P140 | 3482 | DePierris
We will study the views on ethics and the nature of morality of three major philosophers
of the past– Plato, Hume, and Kant. We will engage in philosophical reflection on the
following questions: What are the reasons for being moral? Should morality be
primarily concerned with duties or with virtue? What is the relationship, if any, between
happiness and morality? Is morality a matter of reason or feeling? Is morality universal?
Work for the course will be four major assignments in the form of exams and papers.
