An examination of the representation of war in a number of major
comic strip albums. We will look at ways of constructing historical
narratives, questions of memory and the ideological implications of
choices in image creation. Strips will include "The Beast is Dead"
by Calvi; "Maus" by Art Spiegelmann, and albums by Herge (with an
accent on the last "e" facing '). All are available in English
translation. The course will be conducted as a discussion.
