Prerequisites: P-Biol L111, L112, and L113.
Course Description: Topic: Ecology and Evolution of Diseases. This
course will survey current knowledge on the causes of epidemics and the
relationships between pathogen and their human, animal and plant hosts.
Ecological and evolutionary changes are involved in outbreaks of
disease, and both will be explored with emphasis on the population
biology of parasites and the evolution of virulence and resistance. The
role of humans and the historical significance of epidemics will also
be considered.
