TOPIC: WFLK: ALL FAULKNER ALL THE TIME

This course will devote itself to giving careful attention to the writings of one of this century's most important writers. We will read several short stories and many novels, probably including: Sartoris, The Unvanquished, The Sound and the Fury, Absalom, Absalom!, As I Lay Dying, Light in August, Go Down, Moses, and The Hamlet. We may well also read The Best of Bad Faulkner. Students will be expected to read extensively and participate enthusiastically. Writing assignments are likely to include a brief review of a significant critical work (3-5 pp), a substantial critical paper (12-20 pp), and an appropriate parody.
