Topics in Art History
The course Art in the Making deals with artists' working methods and the
creative process. While the content is similar to materials and
techniques courses, the information will be presented in an art-historical

scientific examination, such as infrared reflectography, X-radiography,
autoradiography, endrochronology, pigment and medium analysis while
following a sequence of historical painting techniques of the "Old
Masters" from the Renaissance to Impressionism.
The course is recommended for students interested in art history as well
as museum studies, conservation, and conservation science; and A102 is
recommended as a prerequisite.
Class requirements: class presentation(s), a short paper, mid-semester
quiz and final examination.
