French And Italian | Reading and Expression in French
F300 | 2520 | O'Sullivan

Topic: Les Monstres. This course introduces students to French
literature and literary analysis and gathers together a wide range of
texts dealing with monsters. The readings feature monsters both
literal–dragons, devils, demons–and figurative–people who become
monsters in their thoughts and actions. Throughout the course, we will
ask: what is a monster and what does it meant to be monstrous?
Readings will include examples from lyric poetry, narrative prose, and
theater. Students will be required to participate actively, keep a
weekly journal, write a number of short papers, and take a final exam.
Taught in French.
