French F313 is the first half of a two-course sequence devoted to a
comprehensive study of French grammar. The course makes ample use of
translation from English as a means of acquiring expressive skills in
French. Along with the formal study of grammar and of levels of style,
stress will be given to the differences between English and French
expressions of particular phenomena. Five readings, drawn from modern
French fiction, are studied for their language interest. Prerequisite:
FRIT F250, F255, F265, or F269.

Students should have access to a major French dictionary. A good
English-French dictionary will also be useful. The course will be
conducted in French, as are all courses at this level. There will be
two hour-tests and a final examination.
