Authorization from department. An analysis of the Italian language
through a close reading of the librettos of the major Italian operas.
Language is studied in its contemporary grammatical and syntactical
aspects, as well as for its meaning and stylistic use in the various
librettos. Combines language lessons of M100 and M150 into one
semester. Recommended for School of Music students with previous
foreign language experience. Students who complete M110 cannot also
receive credit for M115, M100, or M150.

All students with previous course work in Italian must take a
placement examination. Contact the testing bureau, 855-1595, for
testing dates. Students must avoid final exam conflicts. See exam
