The class shall read broadly on the emigration of public intellectuals
from the emerging Holocaust on the European Continent and how they
subsequently wrote on the origins and nature of the Nazi tragedy.
Each student shall write two substantial papers.  The first shall be
on the general literature on the intellectual emigration.  The second
shall be a close analysis of a specific book by an émigré on the
developing Holocaust.  This is an eight-week course with very
intensive writing on the last two weeks in early October.
