This section meets with HON H228
Is there a moral basis to law? If so, what is it? If not, why should
people obey the law? In this course, we will examine some basic works
in jurisprudence to help us understand the relationship between law
and morality. After learning what legal theory has to say about what
law is and why we should obey it, we will the theoretical knowledge we
have gained and test it against some real problems in American law,
including affirmative action, abortion, and hate speech. Throughout
the course, we will focus on the proper relationship between law and
morality.
