This course introduces methods and theory for studying the sound
structure and patterning of the languages of the world. The first part
of the course deals with the description and analysis of sound systems
and how such systems interact with morphology and phonetics. Later
parts of the course will deal with such issues as metrical structure,
autosegmental phonology, prosodic phonology and optimality. Throughout
the course there will be an emphasis on phonological problem solving.
