E661: Historical Research in Music Education. 2 cr., T 3.30-5.30P,

This seminar, led by Professor Estelle Jorgensen, is suited for
graduate students who wish to understand research in music education
history.  It examines the historical research literature in music
education, the questions that have preoccupied historians in music
education, the nature of history and the historians task, the typical
sources studied, educational documents and treatises, music education
references and treatises, icons, artworks, photographs, relics,
archival material, personal accounts, methodological issues involved
in studying musical treatises for pedagogical as well as musical
content, and evaluation of historical research reporting.  The course
