Religious Studies | Issues in the Study of Chinese Religion
R649 | 3898 | Campany

This course is meant to be an introduction to the study of Chinese
religions at the graduate level. The focus throughout is twofold: on
the materials and methods for research, including attention to the
sorts of methodological, theoretical, textual, and historiographical
pitfalls that await one in the field, and the current state of the
field in light of its history; and on the broad canvass of Chinese
religious history itself. No knowledge of Asian languages is
presumed, although materials based on those languages will, of course,
be referred to frequently.
